Kumortuli (also spelt Kumartuli, or the archaic spelling Coomartolly) (Bengali: কুমোরটুলি) is a traditionally potters’ quarter in northern Kolkata (previously known as Calcutta), the capital of the east Indian state of West Bengal.(Kumar = potter. Tuli = locality), is over 300 years old. Idols of Durga,The matriarch Goddess in Hindu mythology are crafted using hay wood and layers of clay over them.The work starts from the Month of August and Ends at around end of September.Right before tha Festival of Durga Puja.Here is a snapshot of a artist adding color to the idol,bringling it slowly to life.
